BIOGRAPHY

Alanis Nadine Morissette was born in June 1st, 1974 in Ottawa, Canada. Daughter of Alan Morissette (french-canadian) and Georgia Feuerstein (hungarian). She has two brothers: Chad, two years older and Wade, her twin brother.

When she was 6 years old, her family moved to Germany, where she took piano lessons. She loved dancing and had learned ballet and jazz since 7.

By the age of 10 she made her acting debut on the Nickelodeon show " You Canīt do That on Television" :"It was a good, stupid, sarcastic kind of show.  Very obnoxious and very tongue in cheek". She took the money that she had made and with family and friends inteh bussinesī help, she recorded her first single "Fate stay with me" under her own record company: Lamor Records.

In 1991, with 14 years old,  Alanis signed a recording contract with MCA Canada and recorded her first album (pop-dance) self called "Alanis", which sold over 100,000 copies in Canada. She won a Juno Award as the Most promising female artist.

In 1992, her second album called "Now is the time" was released. However, this album sold half as many copies as "Alanis".

After finishing highschool, Alanis moved to Toronto for new musical influences and her complete development as an artist. In 1994, she went to Los Angeles, EEUU, where she met her soon to be spiritual brother and best friend: Glenn Ballard. The chemistry between them was evident from the beggining, when they started working on her new album "Jagged Little Pill". In their first meeting together they wrote a song called The Bottom Line.  Jagged Little Pill was released in June 1995, by Maverick Records. This album was accepted all over the world, and inmediately shot up the Radio Charts and stayed there for almost 113 weeks.  She won 4 Grammy awards (out of 6 nominations) including Best album of the Year;  Billboard Award to the best artist of the year,  platinums all over the world; Diamond for selling more than 10 million copies and a worldwide tour with over 200 shows.

After Jagged Little Pill Tour ended, she was physically and emotionally exhausted, ready to never write or sing again. It was because of this that Alanis took a break and in January 1998 travelled to India with her mother and her best friend, where she was able to be herself and make peace with her past, her fame,  her friends and specially with herself. In February 1998, during her trip to Cuba, she realized that it was time to write again, that she had grown as a person as well as an artist. (this was when she wrote Uninvited).

As a result, in 1998 Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie was released, produced by Alanis and Glen. Contrary to JLP, this album focused in joy, contemplation, peace, spirituality rather than pain, suffering and anger. SFIJ sold around 8 million copies all over the world, and produced 4 radio hits.

During Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie Tour, Alanis decided to record an MTV Unplugged (sep 1999), apart from special appearances such as VH1īs Behind the Music and VH1īs Story Tellers.

In November 1999, Alanis made her debut in the big screen with Kevin Smith movie "Dogma", playing God in a small part. Besides, she writes the soundtrack for the movie called Still, which also got her more airplay in the radio.

In March 12th, 2000 she won two Juno Awards including Best Album of the Year for SFIJ and Best Video for her So Pure single. She also performed in  "The Vagina Monologues" (3/24 to 4/2) in the Westside Theater in Nueva York, plus recording an episode for HBO "Sex and the City" series.

After finishing the One Tour, she recorded a Direct TV special called "Music in High Places" with an excellent performance.

Nowadays Alanis is working on her new album Under Rug Swept , which seems to be released on Febraury 26th 2002. We will have to wait a bit longer, but we all know that  SHE  is worth the waiting!!!
